Dress with asymmetric shoulder pleats: how to draft the lining – Vestido com ombro pregueado assimétrico: o molde do forro

EN Summary: Step by step instructions on how to convert the dress pattern into the lining pattern

EN: The pattern for the lining can be obtained mainly from the final dress pattern with the exception of the front bodice of the dress; instead of replicating the pleats on lining, I’ll use the basic pattern with the horizontal chest darts (before slashing and spreading the shoulder pleats), cut on grain instead of on the bias; click here for the post explaining how to obtain the front bodice pattern. First I replicate the alterations made on the pattern after fitting the final bodice muslin (red lines in the photo below):

---

EN: I also shortened the bust dart to around 2,5cm of the bust point:

---

PT: Também encurtei a pinça de peito para cerca de 2,5cm antes do ponto central do busto:

EN: Then I add the SAs around the pattern except the armholes and neckline; the facings are really narrow, the lining will be stitched 1cm from the edge of the sleeve and neckline.

---

EN: Using the dress back bodice pattern, I exclude the SAs on the neckline and armholes, leaving the rest as is.

---

EN: The dotted lines mark the staystitching line, 1cm from the edge:

---

EN: On the dress skirt pattern (front), instead of the 4cm SA I cut 1,5cm SA (5/8inch):

---

EN: On the back skirt pattern I exclude the slit facings, keeping a 1,5cm SA. The hem allowance is also reduced to 1,5cm.

---

EN: I also move the end of the CB seam (beginning of the slit) 1,5cm down; this will create a fold above the back slit, necessary so the lining won’t be subject to stress tension while sitting.

---

EN: For the inexperienced, most of these alterations will make sense when I show you the lining details when the dress is finished. Stay tuned for the final post!

---
